Why did you become a personal trainer?

It didn’t initially even enter my mind, I did an exercise science degree at Deakin wanting to work for an elite sporting team. I lost my passion for that throughout the course but finished the degree nonetheless (this automatically qualified me as a registered PT).

It wasn’t until I had worked in management in sport and got into bad habits and my once athletic figure was now very overweight to the point my best mate called me a “fat f***” one night.

I’d grown up the skinny kid and never been called that. It fat shamed me into action, then I started my own journey. Visited my cousin's training facility in Warrnambool and was inspired. The rest is history.

What was your first ever job?

Basketball referee at 14, then checkout chick at 15 with Woollies.

What is your favourite exercise activity?

I love mixing it up. But If I was held to ransom, I’d say bench press because I’m decent at it.

What high school did you go to growing up?

Brentwood Secondary College (Glen Waverley)

The best part about being a personal trainer?

The reward from helping someone who didn’t know how to help themselves and showing them the way. All these years on it never gets old and there is always more to learn, it’s an evolving science.

What’s your favourite food?

Mum's meatloaf or lasagne.

What is your favourite exercise activity?

I love lifting weights. The days that you push your body further than you ever thought possible and the days you drop the weight and just smash out a workout.
I also enjoy running, boxing anything that pushes the body.

What high school did you go to growing up?

Cleeland Secondary College.

The best part about being a personal trainer?

Seeing clients achieve things that they never thought they could. Transform their body into something that they can admire in the mirror. Complete a box jump, do a chin up, complete a push up on their toes, lift 200% of their body weight.

What’s your favourite food?

My wife makes a Chicken Risotto to die for. She made a batch once and went out to netball. I came home to a note “help yourself”. She planned for it to be leftovers for the next night and possibly lunch the day after (5 serves) … there were no leftovers!!!!

Sarah Millard
Massage Therapist

Why did you become a massage therapist?

My family upbringing was very alternative. We practiced zen principles, meditation, yoga, and used herbal therapies and diets for ailments. I was a very inquisitive child. It was evident on my first day of school that my families approach to health and lifestyle was very different to others. It was this curiosity, my early experience with the power of touch and investigation of my own autoimmune musculoskeletal condition that has made me so passionate about Massage and Bodywork.
I've become the therapist I wish I had when I was going through diagnosis and management of my condition and love sharing my experience, skill and knowledge with others.

What was your first ever job?

My first job was assisting the lifestyle coordinators in the nursing home my parents worked at during my school holidays.
I would often sit with those who couldn't/wouldn't participate in programs and rub their hands. It was always such a positive experience, for both, and I was always surprised about the stories that would nearly always shortly follow once we'd started. So many would say I had such a beautiful touch, healing hands. It was definitely this point in life that intrigued me to learn more about the power of touch.

What high school did you go to growing up?

Mount Waverley Secondary College. Murrumbeena Secondary College. Caufield Park Community School. Swinburne Senior Secondary College.
Mainstream schooling was not a good fit for me, I tried a few and finally found my love of learning with the Melbourne College of Natural Medicine(currently Endeavour College of Natural Health).

What’s your favourite food?

My favourite would have to be fresh in season produce, grown with love, picked straight from the source, prepared simply. You just can't beat that fresh full of life taste!
